Cate Blanchett and Dame Edna To Join ‘The Hobbit’ Cast

As reported earlier, Evangeline Lilly joined the the cast of the upcoming Peter Jackson prequel to the Lord of the Rings franchise, The Hobbit. Now two more are reported to be confirmed for the upcoming film: Cate Blanchett and Barry Humphries, better known as his very colorful alter ago Dame Edna.

Cate will of course be making a return, reprising her role as Galadriel, the Lady of Lothlorien. Barry has joined the cast for the first time and will be portraying the Goblin King.

Director Peter Jackson announced this via his Facebook, saying:

“[Humphries] will be portraying the Goblin King, in much the way Andy Serkis created Gollum. We’re looking forward to seeing him invest the Goblin King with the delicate sensitivity and emotional depth this character deserves.”

Should be interesting to see how Dame Edna – I mean Barry – plays out the Goblin King. Gollum was SUCH a character!

Great casting Peter. Wonder who will be the next to be casted!

What do you think of Cate and Dame Edna joining the cast of The Hobbit?
