Zooey Deschanel To Be ‘The New Girl’ on Mainstream TV

Hipster dream girl Zooey Deschanel is making the jump from indie queen to possibly becoming a mainstream starlet as the star of a new TV show called The New Girl. FOX unveiled the first preview of the new series days ago; they picked up the sitcom pilot for next season on Tuesday night.

According to Deadline, in The New Girl Zooey plays Jessica Day, an unlucky-in-love elementary school teacher who gets brutally dumped by her boyfriend [think Jason Segel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall status – only WORSE!] and ends up moving in with three guys (played by Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, and Damon Wayans, Jr.) who help her to get back on her feet.

Here’s a preview of The New Girl:

Adorable? Totally! Funny? Yep! Awkward? You betcha!

Judging from the trailer, an extended , the show combines sad and relatable (breakups are never fun) with funny (Zooey’s socially awkward persona, hilarious!) and plain adorable (the guys coming to her rescue and serenading her? I DIE!), making for some great TV. And HELLO… it’s Zooey Deschanel!

Zooey, for one, is super stoked, tweeting this news last week:

What do you think of Zooey’s new show? Will you be watching it?

Do you think Zooey has what it takes to break into the mainstream or is she strictly an indie girl?
