Wonder Woman Show Gets Depowered: NBC Rejects the Series

Before even airing a single episode, the anticipated (for better or for worse) Wonder Woman TV show has been canned. No shows other than the pilot will be filmed and it looks like that won’t even air.

“But wait,” you might be saying. “Ashly, aren’t you a HUGE Wonder Woman fan? Are you going to rant at us about how unfair it is?”

Hell no. Actually, I’m REALLY glad this show will not be happening.

Lemme explain. Actually, lemme let Wonder Woman explain:

Only replace “movie” with “TV series.”

Look, I DO want a Wonder Woman TV series or movie or SOMETHING. I think Wonder Woman deserves to be as prominent across media as Batman and Superman are. They are the cornerstones of the DC Universe and while the boys have gotten multiple movies and TV series, the Amazon herself has had comparitively fewer starring roles.

But the planned NBC series? Nope. Sorry. The script was unimpressive. Each and every released set photo made my heart sink a little more. And the use of the post-issue #600 costume, but redesigned to somehow show MORE cleavage? It didn’t feel like Wonder Woman was getting her due as a heroine. It just felt…wrong. I have nothing to say against the casting of Adrianne Palicki, and actually seeing how she faired as Princess Diana was one of the things I was actually looking forward to…but I’d rather see it handled better.

And hey, if you guys still wanna see a Wonder Woman series, show it! Blog about it, get a buzz started. Get your hands on a copy of the awesome animated movie that was put out a few years back! Hey, even better: START BUYING THE COMIC! Pick up some of the trade paperbacks!

I’m really hoping that the ditching of this series isn’t going to be taken as a sign that the world doesn’t want/need a Wonder Woman series or movie. It just didn’t need THAT particular series. So, hey, entertainment industry: take this as a “back to the drawing board” situation. Don’t blame Wonder Woman. She doesn’t like that.
