Abraham Lincoln Museum

I am so glad I was able to attend the performance of “Fondly Do We Hope, Fervently Do We Pray”by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. The performance featured Mary Todd’s personal torture of losing her sons, husband, and a nation’s faith; focusing also on Abraham’s difficulty as a man and President in holding a country together during it’s most bloody of wars.

I recently visited the Abraham Lincoln Museum in Springfield, IL and I have always felt proud to be American, and identified myself as such – but the museum quite changed me.

“Mary led the conversation – Lincoln would listen and gaze on her as if drawn by some superior power”Elizabeth Edwards (sister)

“As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy” – Abraham Lincoln
