Flashback Friday: ‘TGIF’ Theme Songs From the 90’s

Does anyone remember when ABC had their TGIF series every Friday night? I remember, as a kid growing up, watching TGIF every Friday night after dinner while playing with my Barbie dolls. Granted, the last time I did that was when I was 10 – but that’s beside the point! TGIF was a big deal as a kid: everyone in school would talk about it the following week and it was just the THING to do as a wee elementary/grade school tween in those days.

For all you youngins who don’t remember it or for those of you who need a refresher, here’s the 411 on TGIF:

TGIF was the American family-friendly primetime block of syndicated shows airing on ABC on Friday nights. TGIF is the acronym for “Thank God It’s Friday,” however, the stars of the lineup used it to mean “Thank Goodness It’s Funny.” It was created and executive produced by Jim Janicek, who was inspired to create a family-friendly programming block after recalling his childhood when his family used to gather and watch The Wonderful World of Disney. TGIF debuted in 1989 but didn’t really explode into popularity until the 1990s.
