I ran a mile today

Ok, maybe ‘ran’ is a taking it a bit far. But I did indeed walk a mile! All in the name of charity. Happy Red Nose Day!

I was joined by about a hundred other people doing said mile, so my guess is a lot of money was raised. Whilst some people did the race 3 leggedly – or in some cases, 4 leggedly – me and my friends Alice & Tapiwa completed this mile so brilliantly donning curly mustaches drawn on with eyeliner because we are the coolest peopleever.

Today, however, was probably the worst day to do it. It was already kind of a pain in the backside because we had to do it first thing on a friday morning, but then it started to rain. Sad face. And it wasn’t even just an annoying little drizzle, it was proper rain! So you can imagine all of us, trudging through the rain, only running when we felt fit to do so (which, may I say, wasn’t a lot) and our mustaches smudging and smearing all over our faces. What a sight we were!

But we continued forth! Into the horrid weather and countless teachers asking us ‘Is this your last lap?!’ and us shouting back in vain ‘NO!’. All the while being overtaken by the athletic types who were on their second or even third lap, when we were only halfway through our first.

I’ve got to say, I definitely learned today that I am very unfit. However to be fair, I don’t do a great deal of exercise. No no, me and exercise most definitely don’t get on. I could only just make a quarter of the track until I had to slow back down to a walk and continue that way, wheezing like a broken dog’s toy as I went.

I just can’t understand why anybody would want to run. I can’t see the fun in it. Walking I can deal with, it leaves you somewhat refreshed and not so out of breath. But running? No. It doesn’t really help that I flail like a noodle in the wind when I run, but that coupled with the fact I just can’t find the willpower to do it unless I’m being chased or something doesn’t make it any better. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure running is great once you get over the first bit of going “OH GOD I can’t go on!” But for me, that’s too big a barrier to jump. I’ll keep on with my long(ish) walks to and from school in between bus rides, thank you.

So, I’m pretty sure a lot of money was raised as Bannister house did their mile. I think I raised something like £35 which I’m quite proud of. However I won’t be doing it again in a hurry. I think the time for my mile was something like 20 minutes or half an hour, something like that. Ha! Take that Roger Bannister! 4 minute mile? Pssht.

By the way, what about my new background? Not bad, eh? I felt compelled to change it as my R.E teacher has become all trendy and got a blog with my old background with all the books. I was, of course horrified and changed it as soon as I got home.

Over & out.
