Buzznet Designers to Watch: Kyle Ng of Farm Tactics

Buzznet is basically a breeding ground for the next Karl Lagerfelds and Vivienne Westwoods of the world. We have SO many talented fashion designers doing creative and amazing things, and this week we want to highlight some of them and their work through interviews and photos. Here are our Buzznet Designers to Watch…

Kyle Ng‘s journey into fashion started out in 2006 with a line of graphic t-shirts. By 2009, Kyle got the urge to do something totally different, he began designing bags based on American heritage, using vintage military fabrics for his designs. Farm Tactics quickly grew from a well-crafted bag line to a full fledged mens-wear line. Farm Tactics gained a cult following and large companies such as Urban Outfitters, Levis, and outdoor company Orvis reached out to Kyle. He now collaborates with all three companies. What’s next for this amazing designer? Only time will tell…

BUZZNET: Describe your own personal style in 10 words or less.

Kyle Ng: Vintage inspired, comfortable, ethnic, folk.

BN: What are some of your fashion must haves? What is something you can’t live without?

KN: Everyone should have one military style jacket, a pair of slim fit chinos and always carry a tote or backpack for your stuff. I can’t live without my PATAGONIA yellow rain coat.

BN: Who are your favorite fashion icons?

KN: Haroki Nakamura, designer for Visvim. His style is so minimal, but the quality of his designs are high-everything is really well-crafted.

BN: Describe your clothing line in 10 words or less.

KN: Farm Tactics is inspired by my personal style.

BN: Where do you find your inspiration?

KN: I am inspired by the past. I love the vintage military clothing as well as vintage outdoor clothing. vintage clothing was a lot more utilitarian back then.

BN: Tell us about your all-time favorite piece you have created and why it’s your absolute favorite.

KN: The tote bags that I made for levis are my favorite pieces that I have ever made. They are inspired by 1970s rock climbing. The handles for the tote bag were made from my dads rock climbing rope from the seventies.

BN: What are your plans for the future? Upcoming projects? Collaborations?

KN: I am finishing up my collection for Urban Outfitters that will be released in Fall/Winter. I have some other collaborations in the work, but I can’t mention anything about that yet! Be sure to read my Buzznet for updates on future projects.

BN: Where can we find (and buy!) your work?

KN: My stuff sells at select menswear stores around the world. Here’s a list of a few:
