Jared Leto To Host “Hurricane” Video/Short Film Screening And Q&A At The Montalban Theater In Los Angeles On Feb. 21st

(New York, NY – February 11, 2011) Thirty Seconds To Mars today announced dates for a new North American spring tour starting April 8th in San Jose, CA running through May 6th in Toronto, ON. The new dates include a very special hometown show on April 9th at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles and a headlining appearance at The Bamboozle festival on April 29th in East Rutherford, NJ (full schedule below). Since the Dec. 8th, 2009 release of the band’s critically acclaimed third album This Is War (Virgin Records), Thirty Seconds To Mars have played to over 2 million people in 100 cities in 30 different countries, selling out arenas around the world. Tickets for the new dates go on sale beginning Feb. 18th and more dates are expected to be announced next week. The band will play new single “Closer to the Edge” for the first time live on U.S. television on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Feb. 18th followed by a performance on Lopez Tonight on Feb. 22nd. They will then tour Australia, the Middle East and South America including a stop at Lollapalooza Chile before returning home to begin the U.S. spring shows.

The band will also make an appearance at the Montalban Theater in Los Angeles on February 21st as lead singer Jared Leto hosts a screening and Q&A for the director’s cut of his controversial video/short film for the band’s song “Hurricane.” The Bartholomew Cubbin’s directed film was banned or restricted to nighttime broadcast on many networks around the globe when it originally premiered in November and sparked discussions about censorship throughout the internet. The Montalban screening will be the first time that fans and media will have an open forum to discuss the video directly with Leto.

Thirty Seconds To Mars’ current single “Closer to The Edge” is the third consecutive Top 10 alternative single from This Is War and is the first single to cross to Top 40 radio where it is expected to chart in the next week. “Closer to the Edge” follows “Kings & Queens” and “This Is War,” both singles hit #1 on the alterative radio airplay charts. “Kings & Queens” spent 3-consecutive weeks at the top slot and has sold over 630,000 digital downloads.

Thirty Seconds To Mars have continued to reach new heights since releasing This Is War. The band won their second MTV VMA award in November when they picked up the 2010 VMA for Best Rock Video for “Kings & Queens.” They also won their fourth MTV EMA award in 2010 for Best Rock Band and their fourth Kerrang! Award as winner of the 2010 Best International Band. This Is War has sold over 1 million albums world-wide and has been certified gold in six different countries including Germany, South Africa, Austria, Belgium, Australia and double gold in the UK. A deluxe edition of the album with four different album covers was released in November, 2010, which includes “Hurricane 2.0” featuring Kanye West, live versions of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and Kanye West’s “Stronger” which the band recorded for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, and the “Kings & Queens” and “Closer To The Edge” videos along with bonus DVD content.
