Anamanaguchi To Score The Scott Pilgrim Video Game with a Hacked Game Boy

There’s a lot in the Scott Pilgrim series that refers to video games. From the very obvious (even in the trailers for the upcoming movie you see Scott pick up an “Extra Life”) to the not-so-obvious (major bands in the series are named “Sex Bob-Omb” after villains in the Mario series and “The Clash at Demonhead” after a Nintendo game released in the ancient time of 1989). So it kind of stands to reason that with a Scott Pilgrim movie coming out, there’d NEED to be a Scott Pilgrim game.

And that game, like everything else Scott Pilgrim related, had better have a killer soundtrack.

Luckily, it’s poised to, because Anamanaguchi, a “chiptune” band, is scoring the entire thing. And since the SP game is being set up to look like an old school side scroller (a la River City Ransom), having a band that makes its music using a hacked NES and a hacked Game Boy makes it even more perfect than one could have hoped.

Don’t believe me? Check out video of Anamanaguchi performing the game’s theme song at this year’s PAX East convention, one of the greatest gatherings of geeks ever known to man.

If you’re liking what you hear, you can head to Anamanaguchi’s website, where they are offering a FREE single every two weeks from now until, according to the band’s Myspace, they get bored.

If you’re looking for similar music, you can also check out Tiger Bicep, a project that features Jake Reed of the group TAT. Download their free EP right here!

As for the Scott Pilgrim game, it will release on August 10th for the Playstation Network and then on August 25th on X-Box Live Arcade. And you can play as Kim Pine. By now you should know what that means when it comes to me.
