Cast Members Breaking Up Before “Breaking Dawn?”

So, MTV has been bragging, a lot, about how little money was used to film the first two films in the Twilight franchise. This, for them, was good. Huge profit margin and the ability to say, hey, look, this movie we made on $4.76 made a bunch of money because of slobbering, addicted fans who will see anything Twilight-related regardless of the film’s quality! SWEET!

Unfortunately, as series like this carry on, you’re going to have to spend a bit more money. Or else you can’t do things like, oh, I don’t know, pay the actors who may be turning down other movie roles in order to continue playing minor sparkling vampires?

Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly posted a story claiming that the OTHER four Cullen siblings, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathbone, had all refused to resign for the two part Breaking Dawn film unless they received $4 million each for the films. Reed has reportedly already reconsidered and resigned for between $750,000 and $1 million, and nobody’s quite sure what’s going on with Rathbone (who might have other incentive to get out of Breaking Dawn: he’s starring in that absolutely horrible looking adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender…where it was decided that an all-white cast would be perfect to play characters who, in the original series, were all very clearly non-white…which is likely going to be a three movie deal unless it makes absolutely no money). But Greene and Lutz are reportedly both holding strong.

While Greene and Lutz’s characters are obviously not the stars of the film, it was pointed out by EW’s sources say that the actors claim they are expected to do as much publicity for the film as stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. And they want to get paid for doing all of that, which makes sense. If you’re not an important part of the movie when it comes to writing your check, but suddenly you ARE an important part of the movie when it comes time for you to fly around and hang out at Twilight panels and conventions, well, mixed messages are not fun.

Could it be a problem? Well, the studio already recast the role of Victoria, which was a minor role in Twilight but becomes more important in Eclipse. However, could fans deal with seeing the role of Alice, pretty much the most important non-Edward member of the Cullen family, played by a different actress?

And also: are they STILL gonna make Breaking Dawn into a two part movie? SERIOUSLY? Look, I’m just saying, if you could condense Watchmen into one film, you can do the same with a vampire version of Rosemary’s Baby.
